"Few people actually look like the well-toned
movie stars and advertising models we are expected to
aspire to be like," says Craig Hamilton-Parker.
"But in our dreams everything changes and sometimes
we play out fantasies that we may not have acknowledged
in our waking life.
"Sex plays an important part in dreams. According
to Freud, all dream activity relates in some way to
sex. Most people would consider this an extreme point
of view, but it is true that sexual imagery is a vital
part of dream content. Dreams have a lot to teach you
about your sexual nature, your hopes, your fears, and
your anxieties. They speak to us in the language of
symbolism that express or disguise, our spiritual, mental
and emotional needs.
"From the body's point of view an orgasm is just
an orgasm. It's a physical function just like any other.
But good sex is pure fantasy. Sex happens inside the
mind. It is what makes lovemaking exciting and fun.
Dreams can help to express and maintain this positive
fantasy.
"Entertainment on the television, in the media
and in advertising spoon feed us with a daily supply
of ready made fantasy - often with direct or hidden
sexual themes. It therefore comes as no surprise to
discover that our dreams nowadays reflect this bombardment
of imagery being generated by our celebrity culture.
"People who appear in your dreams represent aspects
of your own self that you may be unaware of. Famous
people usually represent the person you would like to
be and to dream of sex with that person indicates that
you hope to integrate those qualities into your personality."
